ASHTAMUDI BACKWATERS

Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam District in the state of Kerala, is the second only in size to the Vembanad estuary ecosystem of the state. Ashtamudi means 'eight hills or peaks' (Ashta : 'eight'; mudi : 'peaks'). It is also the deepest among all the estuaries in Kerala, with a maximum depth of 6.4 meters at the confluence zone.
